Amazing Grabs

the catch

Incredible catches are part of what makes baseball so much fun to play – and to watch. We can’t help but marvel at the deft glove work of MLB athletes.

Here are a bunch of great grabs – which is your favorite?

Mr. Nonchalant

Monday, September 19th, 2011

We know guys like this: totally unflappable. A foul ball careening your way while you’re chatting on the phone? No problem.

We think he’s talking to someone who is watching the game on TV – notice how he holds the ball up to the camera?

We can imaging him saying, “No, keep going. I’m listening – I just had to catch a foul ball.”

Radar Glove

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Here’s a neat gadget that measures ball speed. It attaches to the outside of your glove and it reads the speed of the ball as it approaches your glove.

It’s kind of like doppler radar for your glove!

We haven’t visited Cooperstown in a few years, but we’ve been following this blog recently, and it reminds us of how much we love this place.

We love perusing the exhibits and displays in the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and we are especially fascinated by all of the old gloves used by the great players of the past.

It’s amazing what these guys did with the gear they had back then. Baseball equipment sure has come a long way!

Eye on the ball (part one)

eye on the ball
We know, back in the day, real men didn’t even use baseball gloves. They barehanded screaming line drives and didn’t give it a second thought.
This guy may have an old-school philosphy towards the glove, but his form is seriously lacking.

We don’t think this is what our LL coach meant when he told us to keep our eyes on the ball.

Talk about a casual catch….this Phillies Fan with food in hand makes it look easy!

Bo Knows…

Hurrying down the street yesterday, a pair of sneakers caught our eye.

We couldn’t help but notice the look of supple glove leather – these shoes gave us sneaker-envy.

The shoe was highlighted on Sneaker News a while back.

We’re all about baseball gloves around here, but these glove-inspired kicks are so cool we had to share. We like the homage to Bo Jackson, too.

World Series Glove Guide

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

While most people were enjoying the World Series, we were glued to our TV with Tivo in hand so we could check on the gloves all the players were wearing. All so that we could serve you – our fans, with this 2009 World Series Glove Guide.

Enjoy, and Congratulations to the Yankees!

Great Catch by a (not-so-)Crusty Veteran

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Earlier, I if you still bring your glove to the game. I admitted that I don’t usually bring it anymore. But I’m probably not the only one sitting there with my baseball cap, ready to improvise should a foul ball finally make it my way. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m as prepared as this fan, who may not have impressed his date when he bought the pizza, but he wowed the crowd with what he did with the box.
