Inventor of Gold Glove Award Dies

Just saw this article that the inventor of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award died last month. Since 1957 the award has been given to the top 18 players by position (9 per league)

Mr. Blasco dreamed up the idea in 1956 and sold the concept to Rawlings executives. The first awards were made in 1957.

“He said it would be fitting to develop an award for defense,” his son, Mark, said. “He conceived the idea and called it the Gold Glove Award.”
