Does anyone know anything about the history of the Rawlings SG "The Premium Series" gloves?

I think they sold those models in the mid 80's to early 90's.

I know there was nothing higher than Rawlings Heart of the Hide, made in the USA with Horween leather. ...Especially during the late 80's and early 90's. I remember there being a "soft series." At that time, the top of the line gloves, like the ones I mentioned, were in the $200 range.

MAS, I have a Premium Series glove from 1987 that I still use today. It's the "SG"32, red leather (can't read the actual model # on teh back-worn off) and has held up unbelievably. I found your post by searching myself for similar gloves. Hope someone can tell us if we could find them new? Would love to outfit the kids with something so good...

OLDRED--I have had my SG 72 since about 1988 and it has seen a ton of use, unfortunately, the lining is shot, but that glove lasted through a couple of complete relacings and 20+ years of use. Sadly, I feel I must retire the glove or shell out the money to have it relined.

To the best of my knowledge, these gloves were discontinued in the early 1990's. I think the retail price was something in the $120 range. The SG gloves were made in Japan.

They were not top of the line Heart of the Hide gloves, but they were good quality gloves. They were all leather--no vinyl piping or lining, and in my opinion, far superior to most of the junk sold today.

I think the only way to find a "new" one today is to search ebay. I have been searching Ebay for 10 years and I only found one SG 72 glove. There are other SG series gloves out there occasionally, but I think there are others who are fans of these gloves. I have tried to pick up a few, but end up being outbid at the last minute.

About 10 years ago, I found a website for someone who specialized in the new old stock gloves and asked about whether he had any SG series gloves. He replied that he had not seen gloves from that series for several years. I
