Ok, I just bought a new glove that was listed at 13", but I could tell that it was really smaller than that. I got home, and it was EXACTLY the same size as an old Spalding glove from 18 years ago with a 12 on it (size?). By the usual measurement down the index finger, along the pocket to the middle of the heel, both are exactly 12". Then I measured my son's first Mizuno. It is listed as 10.5", but by measurement is really 9.5". Then I measured his new 11.5" Kelley Century and it is 10.5" by measurement. His coach said that he should have an 11.5" glove at this age (9), but right now, I am not sure what that means.

I'll buy the argument that the measurement is really the size of the pattern before the glove is put together and that Spalding had it wrong 18 years ago, but what do I do with the information on web sites on how to measure a glove -- which gets you a different measurement than the manufacturer's stamp? And what about the recommendation that a 9-12 year old should have a 11"-11.5" glove? Is that recommendation based on the actual measurement or the manufacturer's pattern measurement?

Arrrgh!
